Paid on Call-Volunteer Firefighters


Please note that NAFRS, historically, recruits for and hires new members on a bi-annual or tri-annual schedule.  This is typically done during the summer months to allow for new members to begin formal fire/EMS training coursework in the fall as a group.  The last recruiting/hiring effort was completed in the summer of 2017 and, as such, NAFRS will not be accepting new members until 2019 or 2020, depending on membership needs.

Candidates must be 18 years of age, possess a high school diploma or GED, hold a valid and current Minnesota State Drivers License, have the ability to read/speak English, and meet physical fitness and cognitive standards and testing.  All offers are contingent on a criminal background check and the ability to show proof of authority to work in the United States.

● Per Call Hourly Rate  (minimum of 1 hour per call) - $21.63  

● Fully paid initial and refresher training tuition, in addition to 
per diem and meal allowance, for the following required coursework: ○ Firefighter I Training ○ Firefighter II Training ○ EMT Training & Certification  

● Monthly stipend for all officers  

● Annual pension contribution for all members meeting their attendance requirements ○ Currently $8,500/year ○ Partially vested after 5 years; Fully vested after 20 years.
